Close But No Cigar
Twitter has launched a self-service ad platform in partnership with American Express to allow smaller businesses and brands to advertise, without having to go via a sales representative.
The self-service platform will work in a similar way to both Google AdWords and Facebook’s ad platform, allowing people to automate ads, controlling aspects such as spend, location and text. The ads available in the service include Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts.
Twitter has launched with a version of a CPC model with brands only paying if the ads are clicked on, replied to or retweeted.
A Twitter spokeswoman said the initiative was currently only planned for the US and did not have a timescale for a UK roll out.
To encourage businesses to sign up, American Express is offering $100 (£62) to a small number of businesses to spend on ads. The platform itself is only available to the first 10,000 American Express customers who sign up.
